The views of people with dementia, their family caregivers and healthcare professionals have been recorded at different stages during the development of technical devices to support independence safety and wellbeing of people with dementia. Based on experience from 3 different projects we conclude that people with dementia can be able and willing to participate in projects and express their views verbally and/or nonverbally. Results from focus group meetings with family carers and healthcare professionals indicate that professionals had fewer expectations regarding the appropriateness of the specific technologies compared to the family carers. However, trials demonstrated that many persons with dementia and their family carers found the products useful. It is recommended to involve family carers at early stages of the development process of assistive technologies for people with dementia.
