The quality of life of persons with disabilities and older persons can significantly be improved through the adequate use of Assistive Technology (AT). However, this will only be true when the development, prescription and use of AT take into account the real needs of the end-user, the activities that person wants to be involved in and the context(s) where those activities will take place. With all this in mind, a novel model in Assistive Technology – the “Model of the Dynamic Circles of Human Activities and Assistive Technology” – will be described. Based in this model, a prototype was developed to provide augmentative mobility to severely physically impaired children and will also be presented. Finally, examples for the use of the proposed model as the basis for more adequate Assistive Technology equipments will be given.
