Arches are structurally very efficient. Nevertheless the dimensions of an arch can be reduced further by strengthening with cables. For arches of glass the efficiency of strengthened arches will be showed. To prevent the cables to be subjected to compression it is advisable to post-tension the cables. This paper focuses on the design and structural analysis of arches composed of glass elements, strengthened with post-tensioned cables to support transparent roofs.
