In recent years a considerable number of studies have been conducted on the relationship between senior citizens and information technology. However, the “digital divide” with respect to age still exists. In this context, we have designed a user-friendly e-mail software for senior citizens on the basis of questionnaire results in an IT course that we executed in 2003. We propose a guided Web mail system that induces the sending and receiving of e-mail in one easy step and omits the more complex functions of e-mail. The system's interface is designed based on conventional paper letters to offer a Web mail system easy for senior citizens to understand and enjoy. Our system is actually designed as a rudimentary teaching tool that makes it easier for senior citizens to learn how to use e-mail software.
