The importance of addressing the needs of older persons and people with disabilities in standardization work is emphasized in important documents like: Heart (1,2), ANEC policy statement (3) and the draft Standardisation Mandate to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI in Support of European Accessibility Requirements for Public Procurement of Products and Services in the ICT Domain from the European Commission (4). To arrive to appropriate standards users should participate in the standardisation process. They can introduce the perspective of the users as a complement to technical and industrial viewpoints. To be able to fulfil the role as equal partner in this process, knowledge about the process, their role and responsibilities must be gained. CEN guide 6 (8) and the USEM concept (6, 7) build now the baseline for a series of trainings for users with disabilities and members of technical standardisation committees in the context of the European projects USEM and Stand4All. The training makes use of a mixture of online material, taught lessons, interactive sessions and assignments.
