At the heart of good design is the ability to understand the domain of application. In design and development, domain understanding, is often supported by different views and representations of the domain. For example in information systems development, design and analysis typically centres around domain annotations such as entity relationship diagrams and data flow diagrams. These are highly visual representation schemes which help both system analysis and development and assist the different stakeholders communicate with each other. Assistive technology systems are complex. Their development involves many different people from many different backgrounds and disciplines. They must communicate with each other. In the same way that software development has benefited from the use of suitable annotation schemes, then so can the development of assistive technology systems. The aim of this work is to demonstrate that Assistive Technology Systems can be modelled using a well known system representation scheme called Coloured Petri Nets.
